BL 201 - Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity

(3.00 cr.)

Corequisite: BL 202 . Restricted to majors, interdisciplinary majors, and minors, or students with written permission of the department chair. An examination of the processes which produce the diversity of organisms on our planet. Topics include the biotic and abiotic factors which determine the distribution and abundance of species and evolutionary processes which lead to adaptation, speciation, and extinction. Also examines conservation of the diversity of life by studying the interaction between humans and other organisms. Addresses quantitative aspects of biology, modeling, and graphical representations of empirical and theoretical concepts. Required for biology majors. Fulfills the natural science core requirement for nonscience majors.
