HS 423 - Disasters in American History

(3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: One HS 100-level course, one HS 300-level course. Examines American history through the lens of disasters. Disasters offer a unique perspective from which to examine social, political, and economic structures and institutions. Explores disasters at various points in U.S. history in an effort to understand how these calamities have affected events; how the impact and understanding of disasters have changed over time; and ultimately, to provide a window onto the changing nature of American society over the past 200 years.
