AH 301 - Women in Art(3.00 cr.)
In a 1971 essay, art historian Linda Nochlin asked, "Why have there been no great women artists?" When looking at art created by women from the Renaissance to the present, this question will provoke many ways of thinking about women and the making of art: is there such a thing as "women's imagery"? Are all women artists necessarily feminists? Why have women artists been left out of the art history of the past—or have they? Is it any easier today for women to become artists than it was 500—or 50—years ago? Formerly AH 200.
