HS 367 - Black Women in the Atlantic World

Black women have a rich history worth exploring, and this analysis highlights their activities and contributions within the family, the workforce, and the black community. Historical themes address black women's roles in areas like religion, education, and politics and in reform movements like abolition, women's rights, civil rights, women's liberation, and abortion rights. Examines black women's organizations like the Council of Negro Women and the Women's Political Council, as well as the achievements of such notable women as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Mary McLedd Bethune, Ida Wells- Barnett, Rosa Parks, and Barbara Jordan.

Prerequisite: One HS 100-level course.
