HS 460 - Seminar: American Progressivism(3.00 cr.)
Focuses on the attempts of Americans to control explosive change in the early twentieth-century urbanization, the impacts of industrialization, and the troubling relationship between big business and political institutions in a democracy. Topics include the background and motivations of progressive reformers; their attempts to assimilate or coerce immigrants; and the effect of the progressive consciousness on matters of race, gender, and social class. Written or electronic permission of the instructor.
