HS 428 - The Making of the Early Republic: A Study of Race, Place, and Ideology

(3.00 cr.)

This course begins with the Constitution and goes to 1830. Using a diverse collection of materials (primary documents and secondary sources), this course emphasizes the relationship between race and place in the early republic years. It also shows how a nationalist ideology was central to the social structuring as well as the political, industrial and economic development and expansion of postrevolutionary American towns and cities.

Prerequisite: One HS 100-level course, one HS 300-level course.
