HS 221 - Africa in the Western Imagination(3.00 cr.)
Africa as a place, and African peoples have occupied a unique space in the modern western imagination. This course explores the history of ideas as they relate to significant historical processes, such as the early maritime empires, the rise of the slave trade, and modern colonialism, in the development of race and racism. The course also explores the impact of these ideas on the present.
Prerequisite: HS 100 . Restrictions: Open to students with catalogue year 2022-2023 or beyond.
