HS 215 - Reformation, Enlightenment, and Empire in Early Modern Europe

Introduces students to the history of Europe from 1500 to the French Revolution (1789). Emphasizing the rise of European states and empires, the course traces Europe's emergence from the devastation of the Back Death, its consolidation into a state-based system, and its efforts at global expansion. Topics include the Protestant and Catholic Reformations, European conquest and empire-building, religious violence and warfare, state-building and politics, the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment, and the transatlantic slave trade and race.

Prerequisite: HS 100 .
Restrictions: Open to students with catalogue year 2022-2023 or beyond.
