GK 330 - Hesiod

(3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: GK 104  or equivalent. Readings in ancient Greece's second towering epic poet. Hesiod describes the shocking and violent origin of the Greek gods, how and why they got along so poorly, the origin of humankind, and our place in the mythological universe-among other fascinating things. The class will encounter Pandora and Prometheus, Zeus at this best and worst, the Ages of Man, the nature of Justice, monsters, and mayhem.
