Examines the impact of imperialism on the political, economic, and social development of the region; the emergence of nationalist movements and the formation of modern nation states; the rise of Islamism; the politics of oil; regional and international conflicts, including the enduring Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the two Gulf wars; and the 2001 Arab uprisings.
