HS 486 - Seminar: The Great Age of the European Reconnaissance: Travel and Discovery

Prerequisite: HS 101 , one HS 300-level course. Overland and overseas travel began centuries before Columbus. Covers the conditions, motives, and goals of those Europeans who began the Great Age of Discovery by using primary accounts in English translations. Examines how Europeans and non-Europeans understood and misunderstood each other. Discusses the consequences for Europe and the societies they encountered.
