AD 651 - Leadership and Equity(3.00 cr.)
Examines leadership theory, equity, and human relations in schools from philosophical, psychological, and sociological contexts through the lens of the culturally proficient school leader. Concepts such equity and ethics in leadership, instructional leadership, and the development of the individual as a school leader are also explored within the frameworks of social justice. The course includes an examination of pedagogical and social practices for multicultural environments as supported by communication, uncovering, and resolving conflicts, parent involvement, and group dynamics. Issues such as racism, sexism, and classism related to the educational environment as they align with leadership theory, concepts, and philosophy for effective school leadership with special emphasis placed on student acquisition of knowledge, understanding, and application of the Professional Standards for School Leaders are also explored.
