NUR 101 - Nursing Professional Development in Catholic Tradition(1.00 cr.)
Introduces students to nursing professionalism within the Jesuit tradition, emphasizing key values such as reflective self-awareness, care for the whole person (cura personalis), and promoting equity and justice. Students explore the history of professional nursing, healthcare delivery systems, and Catholic healthcare, developing a deep understanding of the ethical and historical contexts of the field. Through discussions focused on social determinants of health in Baltimore, students integrate cultural, spiritual, and social factors into their healthcare practice. The course encourages students to develop competencies in holistic care, using reflective journaling, case studies, and active participation to demonstrate their ability to analyze and address diverse health needs. By grounding the course in Jesuit values, students are equipped to provide compassionate, patient-centered care that promotes individual and community well-being. Students are assessed through reflective journaling, case studies, class discussion, and other methods.
