SC 277 - The Sociology of Food and Foodscapes(3.00 cr.)
Introduces the sociological study of modern “foodscapes” as simultaneous structures of community and inequality. The course examines how food production links human societies to the natural world and how food distribution ensures social reproduction. The food system as a commodity chain along with shared and contested food practices, meanings, and unequal realities of food access and food sovereignty are also studied.
