Guided by the Universal Apostolic Preference, 'Caring for Our Common Home', students explore the interactions between human society and the natural world while surveying current environmental policies. Concepts such as environmental history, racism, and justice are introduced. Students gain a foundation in environmental economic theory, including markets, externalities, non-renewable resources, and the commons, while also learning basic environmental accounting. Critiques of this approach, such as ecological economics and alternative economic conceptions of a flourishing society are also explored. Fulfills social science core.
