SE 905 - Characteristics of Learners with Mild and Moderate Disabilities

(3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: SE 761  or equivalent or written permission of the program director. Students demonstrate knowledge of high incidence disorders typically resulting in mild or moderate disabilities. Topics include in-depth study of characteristics and course of atypical growth and development patterns, similarities and differences among and between disabilities, and the lifelong impact of these disabilities. Educational, social, and behavioral issues are covered in detail, as well as other issues specific to learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, speech and language impairments, autism spectrum disorders, and emotional and behavioral disorders. Co-occurring disabilities and associated problems are included. The multidimensional impact of overlapping disabilities is emphasized.
