GB 724 - Financial Markets and Institutions

(3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: GB 703 . Surveys money and capital markets in order to determine their functions and interrelations in the national economy. Examines the interaction of key institutions and monetary and fiscal policies in the financial markets. Students learn to explain the determination and structure of interest rates, risk structure, and the regulatory environment, including the Federal Reserve System. Topics include the determination of interest rates, the term structure of interest rates, risk structure, money markets, bond markets, and mortgage markets. Emphasis is also placed on the different financial institutions and their role in the financial markets.
