SP 205 - Phonetics

Prerequisite: SP 103 (may be taken concurrently). Students learn principles of speech sound production and use of the International Phonetic Alphabet for phonetic transcription. Normal rule-based variations in sound production are discussed, specifically as related to different dialects and idiolects. Students also learn auditory discrimination of speech sound productions with reference to diagnosing and treating speech disorders.
