Learning Aims
Students with a studio arts concentration will demonstrate success in the following areas:
- Familiarity with the concepts of the visual arts and the ability to communicate the significance of their own work and the works of others
- Acquisition of material and technical skills required for solving two-dimensional design problems
- Acquisition of material and technical skills required for solving three-dimensional design problems
Upperclassmen
- Creativity and initiative beyond required parameters of assignments; ability to work independently, developing their own ideas and style
Seniors
- A sound preparation for entering the professional work force or pursuing graduate study

Requirements for the Major
Requirements for the major and an example of a typical program of courses are as follows:

Notes:
- Visual arts majors with a studio arts concentration take SA 224 , SA 225 , AH 111 , PT 270 , SA 400 or SA 412 ; one additional art history course; and nine additional studio arts courses, of which one must be taken from each of the following sequences: drawing or painting (SA 303-304, SA 310-315, SA 342-343), printmaking or mixed media (SA 321-323, SA 352-355), and digital or three-dimensional (SA 360-367). The six remaining courses may be selected from any SA 300- or 400-level course.
- Visual arts interdisciplinary majors with a studio arts concentration take SA 224 , SA 225 , AH 111 , four additional upper-division studio arts courses, and either SA 400 or SA 412 .
- Students must complete the diversity core requirement through a designated diversity core, major, or elective course (see Diversity Core Requirement under Curriculum and Policies).
