American studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that examines the American experience-past and present-through the literature, art, history, politics, and society of the United States.

Requirements for the Minor

Requirements for the minor are as follows:

EN 203 - Major Writers: American Literature or
EN 366 - American Literature to the First World War
HS 102 - Making of the Modern World: United States I or
HS 103 - Making of the Modern World: United States II
Capstone Project in American Studies (AH 490 /EN 405 /HS 497 /PS 490 )
Three Electives (9 credits; listed below)

Notes:

No more than two courses from the same department may count toward the minor, excluding the capstone project, which may be from any two of the four AS departments. At least three of courses counted toward the minor must be taken at the 300- or 400-level.
