The Theology department offers an accelerated BA/BS-MTS program for current undergraduate students of all majors. Ordinarily, students must have a 3.000 or higher GPA and should apply for the MTS program during their junior year through the Office of Graduate Admissions. Undergraduate students admitted into the MTS program take up to four TH 600-level courses during their senior year.

For theology majors, up to two TH 600-level courses apply to both the undergraduate theology major and MTS degree; the remaining two TH 600-level courses count as undergraduate free electives and towards the MTS degree.

For theology minors, up to two TH 600-level courses apply to the theology minor; all four courses count as undergraduate free electives and towards the MTS degree.

For students from all other majors and minors, all four TH 600-level courses count as free electives in the undergraduate degree and towards the MTS degree.

BA/BS-MTS students must pass a language proficiency exam, which earns up to 12 credits to be applied to the MTS degree. The language proficiency exam is administered by the Theology department and offered in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. If a student would like to take the language proficiency exam in a modern language, a petition must be submitted by the student to the MTS Director of Program Operations. A student can take the language proficiency exam up to two times a semester, as arranged with the department, and must take it for the first time before the beginning of their penultimate semester of coursework. There is a fee each time the test is taken.

All current undergraduates are welcome to apply. The application includes the online Office of Graduate Admissions application, two letters of recommendation (both of which must be from Loyola faculty members), and the essay. Official transcripts are automatically requested by the Office of Graduate Admissions and the $60 application fee is waived for all current students.
