Requirements for the Minor
Notes:
The natural sciences minor is open to all students except those taking BL, BC, or CH majors (including interdisciplinary majors and combinations). Students taking the FO major may only count the courses BL118/119 and 121/126 towards both the FO major and the NS minor.
Students interested in pre-health programs can take this minor along with a nonscience major and thereby satisfy the necessary course requirements for most health professional schools. Students are encouraged to meet with the director of pre-health programs before electing a nonscience major as preparation for a health-related career. This minor is most directly designed to meet the minimum prerequisite course needs of medical, dental, and veterinary school applicants. Students interested in other health professions may want to consider other pathways to secure their prerequisite courses. Students should also consult with the director of pre-health programs about the math requirement, as it varies for health professional schools. It is important for students specifically interested in medical and dental school to meet with the director of pre-health programs to discuss course selection outside of this minor, to understand the foundational areas of the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and some specifications of dental colleges.
