- Elective
- Elective
Key:
* Required for major.
Notes:
- Introduction to Statistical Methods and Data Analysis (ST 110 ) or an equivalent statistics course (e.g., EC 220 ) is required for the major. Making Sense of Data with Database Management Systems (CS 105 ) and/or Topics in Introductory Computer Science (CS 120 ) are strongly recommended. ST 110 and CS 105 can be used to fulfill the mathematics/natural science core requirements.
- Interdisciplinary Major: Students wishing to combine sociology with some other field for an interdisciplinary major must take SC 100 , SC 201 , SC 202 or SC 203 , SC 342 , SC 355 , and three sociology electives, two of which must be SC 360-499 level (and one of those must be a 400-level seminar).
- The combination of biology/sociology is an excellent program of study for students interested in medical school, graduate study in medical sociology, or a career in the health field. Combining sociology with psychology, writing, and history are also common interdisciplinary courses of study. Global studies is a common double major with sociology.
- SC 100 , SC 201 , SC 202 , SC 203 , SC 204 , SC 205 , SC 206 , SC 207 , and SC 209 all count toward the Social Science Core requirement.
- Prerequisites may be waived for any course upon receiving written permission of the instructor and the department chair.
- Students must complete the diversity core requirement through a designated diversity core, major, or elective course (see Diversity Core Requirement under Curriculum and Policies).
