Socrates and the founding of political philosophy; Thucydides and the crisis of the polis; the critique of Aristophanes; Plato's Apology, Crito, Gorgias, Republis, Theaetetus; subsequent contributions to the tradition by Cicero, Saint Augustine, Alfarabi, Saint Thomas More; Plato's modern enemies: Machiavelli and Mill.
