WR 320 - Argumentation

(3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: WR 100  and one WR 200-level course. Students study the structure, role, and use of argument in everyday contexts, from personal conversations to political controversies. Newspaper editorials, feature articles, policy memos, open letters, courtroom speeches, and election debates are just a few examples of the argumentative genres that students analyze or compose. Students learn to identify and employ a range of argument types and to spot and respond to fallacies. Ideal for students interested in law, public service, and business.
