EN 265 - Justice and Hope: Writing the U.S.

(3.00 cr.)

Investigates classic and cutting-edge writers, thinkers, and activists who have helped change the face of the U.S. from the nineteenth century to the present day. Representative works may include non-fiction narratives such as Frederick Douglass' A Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, WEB DuBois' Souls of Black Folk, poems by Walt Whitman, Langston Hughes, and Jacqueline Woodson, a play by Lin-Manuel Miranda, letters and talks by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and Fr. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman, and a photo essay by Devin Allen. 

Prerequisite: EN 101 .
