RE 476 - Disciplinary and Digital Literacy for Diverse Elementary Learners(3.00 cr.)
Addresses the theories, research, and scientific, evidence-based pedagogical practices related to the instruction, scaffolding, expansion, and assessment of foundational, intermediate, disciplinary, and digital (new) literacies with adolescent learners in the content areas (Art, Music, English Language Arts, World Languages, Mathematics, History, and the Sciences). Students explore reading research; how the brain learns to read; literacy assessments for universal screening, guiding instruction, and monitoring progress in the framework of Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) in the context of content area instruction. Students are taught to critically explore, evaluate, and create print based and digital curriculum, resources, tools, and texts for literacy learning and assessment of all adolescent learners within the disciplines. Clinical practice within disciplinary classrooms is required.
