SP 441 - Aural Habilitation(3.00 cr.)
Students study the effects of hearing loss on the communication abilities of adults and children. Adult social, emotional, and communication competencies are addressed with a focus on conversational repair. Assessment and intervention strategies, as well as amplification systems—including hearing aids, hearing assistive technology, and cochlear implants—are highlighted. Pediatric populations are examined, including educational options, assessment, and intervention methods. The course presents an overview of causes associated with hearing loss. Students participate in collaborative learning assignments, working together to apply evidence-based, practice-supported interventions to mock clients and data sets. Students are encouraged to consider the insights of others when completing team projects.
