The Department of Finance in the Sellinger School of Business and Management provides students with a strong foundation in financial analysis, financial markets, and financial decision-making. Finance plays a central role in organizations across all industries by supporting investment decisions, capital allocation, and the management of financial resources and risk.
The department’s programs share a common foundation in financial principles while allowing students to develop expertise in a specific area of the finance profession. The Finance major emphasizes corporate finance, investments, and financial markets. The Financial Risk Management and Insurance major focuses on identifying, measuring, and managing financial and insurable risks. The Real Estate major prepares students to analyze, finance, and manage real estate investments and development projects.
The department emphasizes experiential learning and engagement with the finance profession. Loyola’s finance curriculum is affiliated with the CFA Institute through the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) University Affiliation Program, and students have opportunities to apply financial theory through experiential courses and activities such as managing a portion of the university’s endowment through the Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund.
Graduates of the department’s programs pursue careers across the financial services industry, including roles in investment management, corporate finance, financial risk management, insurance, real estate investment and development, consulting, and financial advisory services.
