Economics, General Concentration, BA

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics provides students with a versatile, powerful set of analytic tools for studying the social sciences. Students majoring in economics general concentration are required to take the following courses:

Notes:


  1. EC 102  and EC 103  satisfy a social science core requirement.
  2. Students who plan to spend all or part of junior year abroad must take EC 301  and/or EC 302  in the sophomore year. Students will not be allowed to take EC 301  or EC 302  abroad.
  3. Applied Calculus (MA 151 ) or Calculus I (MA 251 ). Students who have taken calculus in high school or have a strong background are encouraged to take MA 251 . This provides students the option of taking additional mathematics courses and/or completing a mathematics minor
  4. Candidates for the BA in Economics may substitute Introduction to Statistics (ST 210 ) for Business Statistics (EC 220 ).  Note that both EC 220  and ST 210  count towards the third Math/Natural Science requirement in the Loyola Core. 
  5. Students must complete the diversity core requirement through a designated diversity core, major, or elective course (see Diversity Core Requirement  under Curriculum and Policies).
