Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs by Degree

The course requirements are identical for the specializations in the first year. Beginning in sophomore year, students have to choose whether they wish to pursue a mechanical engineering specialization or one in electrical-computer engineering. Typically students choose and declare their specialization at the end of their first year to register appropriately for the fall of their sophomore year.

Mathematics and Science Prerequisite Courses

In order to graduate within four years, first-year students who are considering majoring in engineering must take the following mathematics and science prerequisite courses:

Engineering Electives

Students are required to complete three engineering electives. One engineering elective may be any 200-, 300-, or 400-level engineering course (except EG 495 ) for which prerequisite/corequisite requirements have been satisfied. The other two courses must be at the 300- or 400-level.

An example of a typical program of courses follows:

First Year

Sophomore Year

Junior Year

Senior Year

Fall Term

Spring Term

Other Course Options

With the approval of the department chair, other engineering courses may be pursued through the Baltimore Student Exchange Program (BSEP). These courses must be at the junior/senior level, and care must be taken to ensure that institutional course prerequisites are satisfied.

Study abroad programs are possible, depending on the courses that are available. Study abroad programs require review and approval of the student’s major advisor.

Notes:

  1. Students may take EG 227 /SA 227  to fulfill both the Fine Arts Core and one of the required engineering elective courses.
  2. Engineering cannot be taken as an interdisciplinary major.
  3. Students must complete the Diversity-Justice requirement by completing two Diversity-Justice designated courses anywhere in their curriculum (see Diversity-Justice Requirement under Curriculum and Policies).
