BL 322 - Synthetic Biology with Lab(5.00 cr.)
Examines the emerging field of synthetic biology, focusing on the design of biological devices and organisms. Topics include gene structure and regulation; genome organization; synthesis of whole genomes; genetic circuits; and the practical applications of synthetic biology in the creation of biofuels, production of pharmaceuticals, and development of vaccines. The laboratory employs bioinformatic tools to analyze DNA sequences and design genes, as well as bioengineering techniques to construct a portion of a genome. Closed to students who have taken BL 321 .
