LW 410 - International Business Law

Examines the principal laws, legal sources, enforcement forums, and legal issues relevant to managing international business and understanding the global legal landscape. This course analyzes the complex, multidimensional aspects of globalization and examines the regulatory, legal/policy, political, and societal contexts in which businesses, governments, institutions, organizations, and state and non-state actors operate and are regulated in a global political economy. Students learn to explain the legal framework for international business, as well as relevant U.S. law, treaty, and host country laws. Additional topics include: international sales contracts, including CISG and dispute resolution; GATT/WTO, USMCA, U.S. import/export laws; trade practices and tools; licensing and protection of intellectual property; host country regulations affecting fair trade, financing, employment, environment, forms of business organization, and human rights relevant to business. Fulfills upper-level course requirement and substitutes for an area study course in international business concentration.
