SP 340 - Clinical Audiology(3.00 cr.)
A study of the assessment of the auditory and balance systems. Differential diagnosis of hearing disorders in children and adults, middle ear analysis, speech audiometric procedures, site of lesion assessments, electrophysiological auditory assessments, and behavioral auditory assessments are addressed. Students participate in lab exercises outside of the assigned class time interpreting assessment data to be used in writing clinical reports. Diagnostic test interpretation promotes critical thinking, and problem solving skills using assessment data when completing evidence based diagnostic procedures. Reports are written during the semester to demonstrate mastery of diagnostic report writing skills and data interpretation to determine site of lesion and appropriate referrals. The lab exercises and clinical report writing reinforce the lectures regarding the diagnostic procedures.
