HS 214 - Europe in the Age of Total War(3.00 cr.)
Between 1914 and 1945, Europeans experienced two global wars that upended all aspects of their lives. New ideologies gained traction, new political states emerged, cultural and social values shifted, and new technologies changed ways of living, all against the backdrop of violence, destruction, and loss. Topics covered in the course may include the rise of fascism, Nazism, and Communism, the First and Second World Wars, the Great Depression, gender and sexuality, culture and modernity, class, empire, nationalism, racism, and antisemitism.
Prerequisite: HS 100 . Restrictions: Open to students with catalogue year 2022-2023 or beyond.
