PS 335 - Refugees and International Politics(3.00 cr.)
The sharp rise in the number of people seeking refuge and asylum in safe and prosperous countries has challenged the international legal framework governing refugees. As citizens in these countries are divided over what benefits to offer refugees and sometimes even whether to accept them at all, urgent questions arise, such as: Who has the right to seek asylum? What do we owe to refugees? This course introduces key scholarly debates and practices in the contemporary politics of refuge, and it aims to provide students with philosophical, legal, and empirical frameworks to gain a comprehensive understanding of refugeehood.
