What is global governance, and how can it facilitate global cooperation? This course examines the politics of how power is disseminated and how decisions are made at a global level, exploring how states and non-state actors use international institutions (including international law and organizations) to address a broad spectrum of global challenges. Organizations such as the United Nations (UN), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the European Union (EU), the African Union (AU), and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) may be considered, and topics may include security, trade, global justice, conflict resolution, peacekeeping, nuclear non-proliferation, international finance, development aid, refugee flows, environmental sustainability, and human rights.
