NUR 320  -  Nursing Care of Families: Children and Adolescents

(3.00 cr.)

Focuses on the nursing care of children and adolescents, emphasizing health promotion, growth, development, and disease prevention. The course covers well-childcare, including vaccinations and developmental screenings, from infancy through adolescence. It also addresses pediatric pharmacology, medication adaptations, and care for acutely or chronically ill children. Students develop clinical judgment in family-centered care, including collaborative patient education and addressing family support needs. In keeping with Jesuit educational tradition, children's health is viewed in the context of their learning and development. Competency is assessed through case studies, clinical reflections, simulations, patient care plans, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), group discussions, group projects, exams, and quizzes. These assessments measure clinical judgment, communication skills, and the integration of evidence-based practices, ensuring that students demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment for nursing practice. Must be passed with a C or better.
