MS 499  -  Command and Staff Simulation Lab

(0.00 cr.)

Provides senior ROTC cadets with a practical environment to apply the principles of mission command, organizational leadership, and unit management. Cadets serve in battalion and company-level leadership positions, executing the duties of command and staff officers. Through structured command and staff meetings, training meetings, and operational planning sessions, cadets synchronize unit activities, manage training calendars, and coordinate resources in support of the battalion’s mission.

The lab emphasizes developing and refining skills in the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), Troop Leading Procedures (TLPs), Eight-Step Training Model, risk management, and effective communication. Cadets are evaluated on their ability to lead peers, integrate staff functions, solve complex problems, and produce timely, accurate orders and briefings. By the end of the course, cadets are prepared to assume the responsibilities of a junior commissioned officer, confidently managing both the operational and administrative requirements of a platoon, company, or battalion within the Army. Students must complete two semesters of this lab in their senior year as part of the BOLC-A (ROTC) requirements. (Pass/Fail).
