This specialization is appropriate for those who plan to pursue master's or doctoral work in economics and prepare for careers in research and/or teaching. This path is also appropriate for students interested in analytical careers in economics or finance.

Major Requirements
Students must take the business foundation courses in addition to the courses listed below:

* EL707 and EL715 may be taken in lieu of EC 341 for students accepted to the Accelerated Bachelor's to ELMBA program.

*Satisfies a social science core requirement.
** EC 220 counts towards the third Math/Natural Science requirement in the Loyola Core.
Notes:
- Ordinary Differential Equations (MA 304 ), Calculus III (MA 351 ), and Analysis I (MA 421 ) are recommended electives for graduate school prospects.
- Students who wish a broad, business-oriented program may elect to pursue the Bachelor of Business Administration in business economics. The BA is described under the Loyola College of Arts and Sciences.
- For economics students accepted into the accelerated bachelors to MS in data science, it is recommended that they take EC 420 and ST 710. ST 710 will count as an economics elective for their undergraduate degree and will also count towards the MSDS degree. The students are also recommended to take CS 701 as an additional course.
