Interdisciplinary Mathematics, Discrete/Algorithmic Track

Interdisciplinary Major

An interdisciplinary major may be arranged between mathematics and another discipline. Students planning an interdisciplinary major must contact each department to review the requirements for that department. The following courses are required for the mathematics component of the interdisciplinary major:

CS 151 - Computer Science through Programming
MA 251 - Calculus I
MA 252 - Calculus II
MA 301 - Introduction to Linear Algebra
MA 351 - Calculus III
ST 265 - Biostatistics
Note: CS 212 is strongly recommended as an elective.

Requirements for the Track

Track requirements are comprised of five additional courses, including:

MA 395 - Discrete Methods
MA 441 - Ring Theory and/or
ST 461 - Elements of Statistical Theory I: Distributions
In addition, select two or three of the following courses:
MA 302 - Programming in Mathematics
MA 421 - Analysis I
MA 427 - Numerical Analysis
MA 428 - Computational Mathematics
MA 431 - Geometry
MA 442 - Group Theory
MA 445 - Advanced Linear Algebra
MA 447 - Number Theory
MA 481 - Operations Research
MA 485 - Stochastic Processes
MA 490 - Special Topics in Mathematics (when applicable)
