Theology, BA


Requirements for Major


The major consists of ten courses beyond the Core.  Requirements for the major:

  • Theology Matters (TH 201 )
  • Second Theology Core (TH 202-299) or Ethics Core (TH 300-319)
  • Nine (9) additional courses in theology, including at least: one course from History (TH 202-220, TH 321-340); one course from Bible (TH 221-239, TH 341-360); one course from Christian Theology (TH 240-260, TH 361-380); one course from Theology, Ethics and Culture (TH 261-280, TH 381-399); and one course from Ethics (TH 300–319)
  • Senior Capstone (TH 400 )

Notes:


Normally, majors take courses at the 300-level. Up to three courses beyond the core may be taken at the 200-level to complete the major.

Notes:


  1. Core Requirements: All students are required to take two courses in theology: Theology Matters (TH 201 ) and either a 200-level Core (TH 202-299) or an Ethics Core (TH 300-319).  Students who take a 200-level Core in Theology must take an Ethics Core in Philosophy, and students who take a 200-level Core in Philosophy must take an Ethics Core in Theology. Honors Program students may take an upper-level theology seminar (TH 320 and above) after completing HN 201  or HN 202  and HN 210  or WR 100 .
  2. TH 201  is the prerequisite for all courses TH 200- level and above.
  3. Students must complete the Diversity-Justice requirement by completing two Diversity-Justice designated courses anywhere in their curriculum (see Diversity-Justice Requirement under Curriculum and Policies).
