Notes:


  1. Students must complete the Diversity-Justice requirement by completing two Diversity-Justice designated courses anywhere in their curriculum (see Diversity-Justice Requirement under Curriculum and Policies)..
  2. During the spring of the senior year, elementary education majors who are not eligible for the licensure track register for the 12-credit, Non-licensure Option, consisting of one departmental elective and three free electives (chosen in conjunction with the advisor). The ED 446  requirement is waived for these students and replaced with one free elective. All other requirements for the major must be met. Students who complete this option do not complete the Maryland-approved program and cannot be recommended for licensure.
  3. All elementary education majors are required to take at least one course in U.S. history. This can be accomplished through HS 100  with a focus on U.S. history or through a 200-level U.S. history course.
  4. RE 220 RE 245 RE 345 , and RE 430  are aligned to meet the Maryland state regulations and International Literacy Association standards. All initial licensure students are required to complete performance based tasks and assignments to meet these standards.
  5. ED 421  is restricted to elementary education students in their senior year.
