NUR 420 - Population Health and the Catholic Tradition of Social Justice(3.00 cr.)
Develops clinical judgment and patient education informed by community health measures, such as injury prevention, harm reduction, and nutrition. Students examine health systems, economics, culture, health legislation, and infectious disease management, while applying the ecological model of health promotion and place-based learning principles to address social determinants of health in Baltimore. The course emphasizes nursing interventions to reduce health disparities and promote health equity. Competency is assessed through case studies, group discussions, written assignments, clinical practice, simulations, and objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), evaluating students' ability to assess health systems, apply health promotion strategies, and address social determinants of health in various settings. Must be passed with a C or better.
Prerequisite: At least a C or better in NUR 310 , NUR 311 , NUR 315 , NUR 316 , NUR 320 , NUR 321 . Concurrent Requisite: NUR 421 . Restrictions: Restricted to nursing majors.
