Notes:
- SP 340 should be taken by the end of junior year in order to take SP 441 during senior year.
- The following courses are offered by the department as electives: SP 102 , SP 200 , SP 214 , SP 303 , SP 312 , SP 314 , SP 412 , SP 413 , SP 414 , SP 416 , SP 417 , SP 443 , SP 444 , and SP 499 .
- Majors must complete one mathematics course (ST 110 required) and two natural science courses (one biology and (one chemistry or physics)) to fulfill the math/science core requirement.
- Some states require teacher certification in order to pursue a career within the school system. Interested students should check each state's requirements and consult with their major advisor.
- The curriculum includes primarily core courses for the first and sophomore years. Students often complete two major courses in the first year, and a consistent number of major courses thereafter. Required major courses are typically offered at least one time each semester with the exception of choice courses and special circumstances such as faculty sabbatical.
- Students planning to study abroad should talk with International Programs, the Academic Advising and Support Center, and their academic advisor during their first or sophomore year to plan their course of study. While the department encourages students to participate in programs that they choose, coursework in the major cannot be fulfilled in the study abroad program. The department cannot guarantee the sequence or availability of courses as outlined should the student choose to study abroad.
- Students must complete the diversity core requirement through a designated diversity core, major, or elective course (see Diversity Core Requirement under Curriculum and Policies).
